The Trifid Nebula is an H II region located in Sagittarius. The nebula's name means "divided into three lobes". The object is a remarkable collection of open cluster, emission nebula (the lower, red portion), reflection nebula (the upper, blue portion) and dark nebula (the septation within the emission nebula causing the trifid appearance).
